Nasheed to make a statement on may 6 attack

In the wake of his May 6 assassination, former Maldivian President and Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed has consented to make a statement.


It was announced by Nasheed's legal team that Nasheed would be ready for police questioning, and that he wanted his statement recorded before preliminary hearings in the trial of those accused in connection with this incident.


Earlier this month, the police announced that they were requiring Nasheed's statement as part of an investigation in order to validate other information they had.


While Nasheed was being treated at ADK Hospital following the incident according to Assistant Commissioner of Police Mohamed Riyaz, the police attempted to record his statement. According to Riyaz, Nasheed did not want to make the statement at the moment.


Riyaz, In addition, stated, the police requested a statement via email or letter when Nasheed was already abroad, and citing to that Nasheed replied in a tweet that he had "nothing except his physical body, heart, and chest" to provide.


Nasheed's legal team did not explain why Nasheed was suddenly willing to cooperate with the authorities by making a statement
