A person has been arrested in connection with the brutal attack on Mariyam 'Mandhy' Zubair, 50, earlier this week at the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) offices.

Police verified the arrest of a 39-year-old male in connection with Mariyam's head injury.

Ahmed Jazeel, an MDP employee, is believed to be Mariyam's assailant. And Mariyam is the mother of South-Galolhu MP Meekail Ahmed Naseem, who said that the attack was not motivated by politics, but rather by a drug-induced attack.

According to the police, the attack took place on Thursday afternoon and was reported to them about 12:30 pm.

Mariyam has been released from the ADK Hospital after undergoing treatment there for a few days.
