Former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has asserted that the current main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) will regain power in the upcoming government, promising to reinstate the complete authority of local councils that had been previously diminished.

Solih made this statement during a ceremony that marked the opening of various development projects finalized by the council on Magoodhoo island in Faafu atoll.

Solih stated that the administration of current President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has a singular aim, and that aim is to oppress the citizens.

At the ceremony, the former president stated that implementing water and sewage systems throughout the islands is the fundamental service. He stated that his administration had prioritized this task and had also finished it.

Solih emphasized that the current administration has halted necessary work in the islands and is not executing development initiatives. Highlighting this, he pointed out that the actions of the current government to secure the 2028 presidential election are aimed at subjugating the populace.

He expressed that, following the imposition of difficulties on the public, the government is now trying to gain approval by providing slight financial assistance, a move he termed as an effort to "enslave" the populace. He mentioned that this strategy will become clear in the forthcoming local council elections.

During the ceremony, Solih reiterated that a government headed by the Maldivian Democratic Party would fulfill the Magoodhoo Airport project according to the desires of the island's inhabitants.

He mentioned that financial backing for the project was obtained while he was in office, but asserted the present administration has allocated those funds for different uses.
