Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) announced on Tuesday that it is presently carrying out a study to define parking zones at Velana International Airport (VIA) ahead of the new terminal's inauguration, which requires creating a parking area at a designated distance from the building.

On July 17, parking at VIA's designated areas was temporarily halted in advance of the new terminal's opening on July 26, which aligns with Independence Day. Although the new terminal has been in operation for almost a month, the public parking area is still shut.

When asked about the reopening of the parking area, a MACL media representative mentioned that initiatives are in progress to ensure the space in front of the new terminal is reachable. At present, employees of MACL and airport representatives are allowed to park on the eastern side of the new terminal.

The official highlighted the significance of launching a new parking area alongside the new terminal and improved services. "We have improved the service and all aspects." "The official stated, 'We are unable to establish a parking area in a specific section of the airport terminal, so we have started researching possible solutions.'"

Along with designating parking areas for MACL staff on the eastern side of the new terminal, the official also noted an expansion of internal bus services. Nevertheless, worries were expressed about possible challenges for people coming to the airport for other reasons, like delivering items to travelers leaving.

"However, the official assured that nearly 99 percent of airport users will find ample options in the parking area."

A few MACL staff members have voiced concerns about the postponed activation of the parking areas after the new terminal's official opening.
