Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) President and Dh.Meedhoo Constituency MP Ahmed Siyam Mohamed on Saturday cautioned that widespread corruption and mismanagement present a serious threat to the country’s sovereignty and nationalism, especially given the absence of strong measures against these issues.

During his speech for National Day, Siyam called for a profound contemplation on present societal matters while the country honors its traditions. He emphasized that "carefully orchestrated acts of corruption and mismanagement have become routine," voicing worry that government bodies responsible for probing these matters are not giving sufficient focus.

He notably highlighted the concerning absence of action regarding "theft and corruption perpetrated by individuals with influence and power," considering these actions "highly detrimental to the freedom and identity of the populace." Siyam urged for "swift and decisive measures to halt such actions."

In addition to tackling present issues, Siyam also called upon the nation’s youth. He encouraged them to "get their hands dirty, with fresh bravery and passion, and to work steadfastly with unwavering resolve to uphold the country's independence and sovereignty and to create a sustainable and thriving economy." He highlighted this as a "national obligation" needing the collaboration of every Maldivian to accomplish this "worthy aim."

Siyam referenced historical events to highlight the significance of national unity and strength, reminiscing about the "extremely challenging and tough circumstances" the Maldives endured after 15 years and six months of Portuguese domination preceding their independence. He highlighted the necessity for all Maldivians to "contemplate and learn from the remarkable efforts of national heroes" who endeavored to save the populace from hopelessness and create 'Al-Dawlatul Mahaldeebiyya,' promoting peace, progress, Islamic unity, and a robust economy.
