The Maldives commemorated National Day with a ceremony honoring outstanding service, where President Dr Mohamed Muizzu presented the country’s top civilian awards to individuals and one corporation for their notable contributions to intellectual, cultural, and civic activities.

Taking place on the historic island of Utheemu in Haa Alifu Atoll, the event was the highlight of the official National Day festivities.

Conducted under the supervision of the National Awards Committee, the event showcased the administration’s dedication to acknowledging accomplishments in various sectors.

The Maldives’ highest civilian honor, the National Award of Honour, was awarded to three individuals:

Sheikh Ismail Mohamed, for his lifelong commitment to Islamic education and spiritual service.

Mohamed Mauroof Jameel, for his groundbreaking work in architecture and construction.

The late Mohamed Majid (also known as Mezzo) is honored after his passing for his lasting influence on Maldivian performing arts and cultural traditions. His daughter Mira Mohamed Majid accepted the award on his behalf.

An additional nine people and one organization were honored with the National Award of Recognition for outstanding accomplishments in fields including language, literature, public health, social service, technology, and business.

Included were Husna Fahmy, acknowledged for her contributions to Dhivehi language and literature; Izzath Ahmed Nizar, for his input in Dhivehi poetry; and Abdul Azeez Hameed and Amira Sulaiman, celebrated for their roles in public health and traditional medicine, respectively.

Awards were presented to Fathimath Ibrahim for her advocacy in disability services and to Ahmed Waheed Ali for his leadership in community mobilization, recognizing their social and civic contributions.

Ooredoo Maldives Public Limited Company received corporate recognition for enhancing telecommunications and commerce, whereas Aleemuddeen, Mohamed Jailam, and Zahiyya Mohamed were praised for their accomplishments in entrepreneurship, software innovation, and promoting women's advancement in underrepresented sectors.

The event featured two unique awards as well.

The Presidential Honour for Distinguished Service to the Nation of Maldives was jointly bestowed upon the people of Utheemu, acknowledging their significant historical role and lasting contributions.

Moreover, Adam Abdul Rahman was awarded the Order of the Dignified Rule of the Dhiyamigili Dynasty (ODRDD) for over 40 years of committed public service.

The occasion highlighted National Day as a time for historical contemplation and a tribute to civic brilliance, recognizing individuals and groups influencing the nation’s destiny.
