The Maldives Employment Tribunal has confirmed the firing of a local male educator charged with sending unsuitable images and videos to, and grooming, male students under 18 at a school in the northern area of the country.

The instructor, hailing from the southern region of the country, had nearly 29 years of experience before being dismissed in September of the previous year. He then lodged a complaint with the Employment Tribunal, requesting a declaration that his termination was unlawful.

In the case against the Civil Service Commission (CSC), he requested reinstatement and MVR 35,000 for legal expenses.

Nonetheless, the tribunal decided against him. The case report indicates that the teacher transmitted nude images to his students through Facebook Messenger and, on multiple occasions, compensated students to receive nude pictures and videos of them.

The case report also reveals that the male instructor tried to hinder the inquiry. Authorities, equipped with a legal mandate to access his phone's passcode, faced resistance and mistreatment from the educator.

The educator has been let go from his role, and legal charges are forthcoming. At one stage during the investigation, he was said to have been detained.
