Kerafa Ghani passes away

Well-known Maldivian entrepreneur and Tree Top Hospital shareholder, 'Kerafa' Abdul Ghani, died yesterday.


Ghani passed away in Bangkok, Thailand, where he was receiving medical care after a long illness.


Ghani, the uncle of ex-President Mohamed Nasheed, was also one of the founders of a highly successful tourism business in the nation, Crown Company Maldives.


Ghani was the sibling of Nasheed's dad and the father-in-law of former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's mother.


In a message on X, Nasheed offered condolences for Ghani's death, recalling his remarkable contributions to the Maldives in electrification, tourism, and vocational education.


Ghani is also recognized for founding the nation's first power plant. He also spearheaded initiatives to establish the vocational training center.
