A 30-year-old man has died following a boat overturning close to Kaafu atoll Thulusdhoo.

The individual was recognized as Ahmed Shiham, residing at Finivaage, Baa atoll Kudarikilu.

He was one of six individuals who fell overboard when the ship "Leo" ran aground on a reef and capsized.

The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) announced that Shiham was declared missing following the incident. A search party from Thulusdhoo later discovered his body.

MNDF reports that the other passengers were saved and are not thought to be severely injured.
