The Football Association of Maldives (FAM) has been requested by the Palestinian Football Association (PFA) to organize a training camp for the Palestinian U-17 national team.
The Palestinian national football team plans to hold a training camp in the Maldives from November 8 to 19, as they prepare for the AFC Under-17 Asian Cup qualifiers.
The persistent Israel-Palestine conflict has hindered Palestinian teams from training and competing on their own land, forcing them to depend on other nations for these opportunities.
The FAM announced that it has opted to request government support in response to the appeal from the Palestinian association. During this time, the Maldives Under-17 national team will play two friendly matches against Palestine.
A FAM Exco meeting conducted on Sunday opted to request government support to fund the Palestinian team's costs during their stay in Maldives.
The executive committee meeting also resolved to pursue sponsorship for the two exhibition games against Palestine.
Palestine is in Group D for the Asian Cup Under-17 qualifiers, set to take place in India. In addition to Palestine and India, the group consists of Iran, Chinese Taipei, and Lebanon. The qualifying games are scheduled to take place from November 22 to 30.
