At a news conference conducted at the President's Office on Sunday, Ali Zahir, the Chief of Staff of the President's Office addressed the accusations circulating in the media against him and President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and claimed that he would resign if a legitimate audio recording revealing his involvement was revealed.

Ali Zahir said that they are aware of the viral audio clips and screenshots, but they categorically refute the false charges against the President and key government officials, adding that there a major goal is to try to influence the judiciary in cases involving former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.

Ali Zahir claimed that one of the primary promises of President Solih's administration was to reform and safeguard judicial autonomy.

He guaranteed that the administration has not interfered with the country's legal system and will not do so in the future.

Meanwhile, the current government has worked hard to improve the judicial system, adding that the public is progressively recovering trust in it, he said to the press.

A second reason behind those accusations, according to Ali Zahir, is to influence the upcoming proceedings against former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, he claimed.

In his opinion, such technique will not work this time and he urged those in charge of monitoring the media to pay particular attention to guaranteeing the authenticity of material in broadcasts and reports.
