The Maldives, along with 15 other countries, has urged for the safeguarding of the Global Sumud Flotilla, a humanitarian project delivering assistance to Gaza.
In a collaborative announcement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Maldives, alongside Bangladesh, Brazil, Colombia, Indonesia, Ireland, Libya, Malaysia, Mexico, Pakistan, Qatar, Oman, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, and Türkiye, voiced apprehension regarding the safety of the flotilla and those involved.
The flotilla aims to provide essential humanitarian aid to Palestinians in Gaza and to increase global awareness regarding the escalating humanitarian crisis and the pressing need to conclude the war.
The Maldives and its allied countries emphasized that humanitarian relief, peace, and adherence to international law are principles that their governments collectively uphold.
The nations urged all involved to avoid any illegal or violent actions against the flotilla, stressing the need to comply with international law and humanitarian law.
They also cautioned that breaches, such as assaults on ships in international waters or the unlawful confinement of participants, would require accountability.
