The National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) released statistics on Saturday showing that it allocated the highest proportion of its Medical Treatment Assistance Programme funds in August to treat Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) diseases.
The agency utilized a total of MVR 16 million last month for medical treatments, both within the country and abroad.
Out of the total spending, MVR 8.5 million was allocated for overseas treatments, whereas MVR 8.3 million was spent on healthcare services in Maldivian facilities.
Diseases related to ENT represented the biggest portion of aid last month, with assistance being provided to 184 individuals. Orthopedic treatments closely followed, with support for 172 individuals. Furthermore, 170 people were treated for cancer during that same timeframe.

Spinal/Neurological disorders: 167 individuals
Enfermedades respiratorias: 158 personas
Maternity services: 127 individuals
Childhood illnesses: 120 individuals
Diseases of the urinary tract/kidneys: 112 individuals
Ocular disorders: 108 individuals
The NSPA also offered help for several other conditions, with congenital disorders getting the least support last month, aiding 10 people.
