President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has revealed a substantial pay rise for workers in the civil service, judiciary, and local councils, starting 1 November 2025.

The choice, disclosed via the President’s official X account, honors a promise he made during his Presidential Address earlier this year.

The modification is a component of the administration's extensive salary harmonization effort, which seeks to establish a fairer and more just pay structure throughout the public sector.

The President stated that all civil service staff, all judicial staff, and all council staff who have not yet experienced a pay harmonisation will be harmonised on November 1 of this year.

He also promised that government employees whose salaries do not change this year will have their adjustments made in 2026.

This action is anticipated to enhance the lives of numerous workers, while also fortifying governance and judicial operations throughout the country.

The announcement extends previous salary adjustments for executive roles in independent institutions, local councils, and the judiciary.

The salary increases implemented last year brought the pay for city mayors to MVR 46,000, atoll council presidents to MVR 33,000, and island council presidents to MVR 25,000.

Leaders of independent institutions presently earn MVR 59,000, whereas their deputies make MVR 55,000.

The Prosecutor General, Commissioner General of Taxation, and Auditor General receive salaries of MVR 74,000, whereas the Chief Justice’s salary is MVR 91,000.
