The Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators (MATATO) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Mohamed Bassam Adam as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
Mr. Bassam brings with him over 20 years of experience in the Maldivian tourism and hospitality industry, having held leadership roles across travel agents, airlines, and destination marketing initiatives. Throughout his career, he has built a reputation for strategic vision, operational excellence, and advocacy for the tourism sector, making him a strong fit to lead the Association at a pivotal moment in its history.
The appointment was made after a rigorous selection and interview process, in which several candidates were considered by the MATATO Board. Following careful deliberation, the Board unanimously selected Mr. Bassam, recognizing his extensive experience, proven leadership, and commitment to advancing the interests of Maldivian travel agents and tour operators.
As MATATO approaches its 20th anniversary in 2026, the Association is preparing to mark this milestone as a landmark year for the industry. With Mr. Bassam’s leadership, MATATO aims to strengthen its role as a key advocate for the sector, enhance opportunities for its members, and expand its initiatives both locally and internationally.
Speaking on the appointment, the MATATO Board stated:

Registered as a non-governmental organization (NGO), MATATO has been at the forefront of tourism advocacy in the Maldives since its inception. Over the years, it has introduced pioneering initiatives such as the Maldives Travel Awards and the Maldives Travel Conference, becoming a leading voice for travel agents, tour operators, and the broader tourism ecosystem.
