USA donates equipment for MNDF special operations

On Monday, the United States government provided specialized equipment to the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) to enhance its special operations abilities.


U.S. Ambassador Hugo Yon officially presented the equipment at a ceremony conducted at the Bandaara Barracks auditorium. Major General Ibrahim Hilmy, Chief of Defense Force, received the donation for the MNDF.


The contribution consists of combat diving equipment, personnel gear for the MNDF Special Forces and Special Operations Group, along with additional operational tools.


As stated by the MNDF, the gear will improve its ability to perform special operations and aid in the overall security and safety of the Maldives.


At the ceremony, Ambassador Yon highlighted the significance of enhancing defense collaboration between the United States and the Maldives. He stated that the U.S. will keep backing the Maldives in upcoming defense efforts.


Major General Hilmy thanked for the support, noting that the gear will enhance the MNDF’s mobility and operational readiness. He characterized the contribution as an important advancement in enhancing the country’s defense capabilities.


Senior MNDF officials and delegates from the U.S. Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies (APCSS) participated in the event.


The Maldives has formerly received defense-related aid from various nations. India has supplied armored vehicles to the armed forces, whereas Turkey has contributed a warship.
