United Kingdom Police has notified the Maldives Police Service of the arrest of former Tourism Minister Ali Waheed.

Earlier this month, on August 25, Ali was arrested in the United Kingdom. A video of him being escorted in a police car has been making the rounds on social media sites. Since Ali's arrest, the police have claimed that they were unaware of his imprisonment and that no official UK entity had alerted them of his arrest.

There's a catch, though. The police claimed Monday that the UK police had officially informed them that Ali Waheed had been arrested owing to immigration offences.

Numerous accusations of sexual harassment have been levelled against the former tourism minister. Sexual injury under Article 16 and attempted rape under Article 15 of the Sexual Offences Act, as well as sexual assault under Article 18 of the Sexual Offences Act and sexual assault with intent to commit under Article 19 of the Sexual Offences Act, as well as two counts of unlawful conduct under Section 132 of the Penal Code, are among the charges brought against Ali Waheed.
