Malaysia Airlines commences operations from VIA’s new terminal

Malaysia Airlines has officially begun operations at the new international passenger terminal at Velana International Airport (VIA), signifying a further milestone in the gradual opening of Terminal 1.


Today, a unique event took place to commemorate the airline’s first flight from the new terminal.


The event featured the Managing Director of Island Aviation Services, Ibrahim Iyas, and was attended by Ahmad Hanam, the Station Head of Malaysia Airlines in Malé, as well as senior officials and representatives from Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) and Malaysia Airlines.


At the ceremony, Malaysia Airlines launched its new check-in counters and offered special gifts to the 170 passengers on its outbound flight.


The inaugural Malaysia Airlines flight to reach Terminal 1 — flight MH485 was greeted with a ceremonial water salute upon its arrival.


Travelers alighting from the aircraft received a hearty reception featuring traditional Maldivian cultural displays.


Malaysia Airlines is the tenth airline to start operations from Terminal 1.


Other carriers currently operating from the terminal consist of Maldivian, Air Arabia, Beyon, Fits Air, Beijing Capital Airlines, Batik Air, Bangkok Airways, IndiGo, and Gulf Air.


As stated by MACL, the inclusion of Malaysia Airlines reflects the firm's dedication to providing top-notch facilities and extensive services to every airline flying to and from the Maldives.
