Six arrested— Police crack down on street violence

Authorities have apprehended six people related to two different assault incidents reported in the capital this month. All individuals suspected were apprehended under judicial mandates on October 10.


The Maldives Police Service states that among those detained is Thaif Rafeeq (26) from Moraa, GA. Maamendhoo; Amsal Abdulla (25) from Sunrise, GDh. Rathafandhoo; Ahmed Neezaad (29) from Thundi, Rosebud, L. Gan; Abdulla Ishraaq (19) from Gulbakage, GDh. Thinadhoo; Shamaal Hussain (22) from Mustharee, Th. Gaadhiffushi; and Rajwan Latheef (24) from Muringu, L. Maamendhoo.


 


October 7 Attack — Boduthakurufaanu Magu


Authorities reported the arrest of Shamaal Hussain and Rajwan Latheef in connection with an incident that took place on October 7 at approximately 18:10, close to the Post Office on Boduthakurufaanu Magu. The couple reportedly attacked a man while on a motorcycle.


After their arrest, both were brought before the court and held for 15 days while further investigations took place.


 


October 4 Attack — M. Reendhoomage Region


The remaining four suspects — Thaif, Amsal, Neezaad, and Ishraaq — were connected to a previous attack on October 4 at approximately 20:30. In that instance, a group allegedly showed up on motorcycles and assaulted a man who was seated on a parked motorcycle close to M. Reendhoomage, wielding lethal weapons.


Authorities confirmed that these four individuals were presented in court and instructed to be held until their trial is complete.


 


Victims Healing; Inquiry Continues


The individuals affected by both attacks were treated at a hospital and have now been released. Officials report that inquiries are continuing to uncover potential links and reasons behind the attacks.


Law enforcement continues to encourage the community to provide information that may help solve the cases and ensure safety in Malé.
