President Dr Mohamed Muizzu met on Sunday with the Rector of the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), Professor Emeritus Datuk Dr Osman Bakar, to discuss methods for improving collaboration in higher education, especially in doctoral programmes.
The gathering, conducted at the President’s Office during the Rector’s diplomatic trip to the Maldives, aimed at enhancing academic connections between the two nations via institutional collaborations and research alliances.
President Muizzu conveyed his gratitude for IIUM’s ongoing assistance to Maldivian students seeking higher education in Malaysia.
Both sides reiterated their dedication to expanding educational cooperation and seeking new chances for collaborative projects.
The visit enhances the enduring relationship between the Maldives and IIUM.
In April 2024, during President Muizzu’s official trip to Malaysia, the university awarded him an Honorary Doctorate in Islamic Leadership and Civil Development for his contributions to Islamic leadership and governance.
The meeting ended with a shared interest in promoting academic exchange and encouraging ongoing collaboration in the educational sector.
