Assistant Commissioner Ahmed Mohamed has been temporarily assigned to lead the Hulhumalé Police.
The Maldives Police Service confirmed that Ahmed Mohamed assumed the position after Assistant Commissioner of Police Mohamed Daud went on leave Tuesday.
“ACP Ahmed Mohamed has been assigned to run the command until he returns from leave,” a police spokesperson said.
Daud's leave follows the release of a report by a sub-committee of the Parliament’s Finance Committee concerning corruption allegations against him.
According to the report:
Daud is alleged to have acquired assets worth MVR 14.6 million through the MMPRC case.
He is accused of receiving large sums of money from unidentified sources over the past two years.
Since November 2016, rent from the house Ma. Thalhamudheege has reportedly been deposited into the accounts of Daud and his wife.
The report notes that the property was built despite uncertainty over the source of funds for the investment.
Daud allegedly purchased another apartment from FW Residence for MVR 4 million.
Both Daud and Ahmed Mohamed were among five officers issued dismissal notices in 2020 following a Police Board decision. While the case was under court review, Ahmed was dismissed in 2021. In 2022, the Civil Court ruled the Police Board’s decision unlawful, leading to his reinstatement.
