The government wants to release a tender in October for a contractor to reclaim and build a resort in the lagoon of R. Alifushi,

Tourism Minister Dr Abdulla Mausoon said that in a written response given to Inguraidhoo parliament member Hassan Ahmed.

On Tuesday morning, Mausoom's response was read out loud in the parliament's morning session.

According to Mausoom an uninhabited island in Alifushi lagoon will be connected to Iththigili. The resort will be built on 10 acres of land reclaimed from the lagoon. He indicated that the government would issue a call for bids for the project on October 21.

During a visit to Alifushi in August 2018, former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has announced the initiative.

A resort in Alifushi was contracted to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) in September. Mausoom has now announced that the tendering process for the project will begin in October.
