The police disclosed that there were 165 scam incidenets which has lead to financial losses in the month of October.
Police statistics indicate that the prevalent scams were related to e-commerce or online business fraud, with a total of 86 incidents documented. Additional scams involved 25 currency exchange frauds, 17 impersonation incidents, 15 phishing, vishing, and employment-related scams, along with 22 cases of different varieties.
So far, only MVR 400,000 of the total losses has been recovered. Authorities stated that 84 of the cases reported have been addressed.
The frauds were executed via phone calls, phishing links, digital messaging platforms, eBay, and Facebook Marketplace.
Officials continue to caution the community to stay alert, as the count of scam victims stays elevated.
