The new Terminal 1 at Velana International Airport has begun today to provide service to India's national carrier Air India.
A special ceremony was held today where Indian High Commissioner to the Maldives G. Balasubramanian was in attendance.
At the ceremony, Air India's check-in counters at Terminal 1 were officially opened, and passengers on the flight were presented with gifts. The first batch of 132 Air India passengers arriving at Terminal 1 were welcomed with cultural performances.
Air India commenced flights to Maldives on February 21, 1976. With this new addition, Terminal 1 now provides service to 18 airlines.
