Hithadhoo Central MP Ahmed Azaan Marzooq anticipates a lasting resolution to Addu City’s persistent electricity problems within the upcoming month.

At a public event in Hithadhoo on Wednesday evening during President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s official trip to Addu, Azaan stated that Fenaka Corporation, the city’s utility provider, guaranteed the council that the electricity issue would be fixed shortly.

“I am certain that a lasting solution to the electricity issue will be discovered during this term,” Azaan stated.

Feydhoo North MP Ismail Nizar reiterated Azaan’s statements, emphasizing that the present government is dedicated to addressing the problem, unlike past administrations that, he asserted, did not implement significant measures.

President Muizzu, speaking at the same event, recognized that although eight generator sets have arrived in Addu, the city still does not have a completely adequate solution to its recurring power outages.

He mentioned that Addu needs around 16 megawatts of electricity to satisfy current demand, and that facilities like Gan International Airport will necessitate a specific power supply.

To tackle the deficit, the government has initiated a significant project to create 30MWS of electricity capacity in Addu. The President stated that administrative and technical tasks are already underway, which includes the improvement of generators and power facilities.
