World Bank supports Professional Apprenticeship Programs in Maldives

According to Economic Minister Fayyaz Ismail, the government intends to launch a program to teach people in accounting, as well as other fields.


Last night, Minister Fayyaz made the announcement during the inauguration of R. Alifushi Job Center.


As the Maldives' accounting industry is dominated by foreigners with 4000 foreigners working in the accounting industry. Minister Fayyaz announced that an apprenticeship program would soon begin to teach a large number of locals for the accounting industry.


Minister Aslam said that the World Bank is supporting the accounting apprenticeship program, which will train 100 people in total in the accounting field of study. 


In addition, Minister Fayyaz highlighted that 200 people will be taught in information technology as part of the apprenticeship program.


As an added bonus, participants in the apprenticeship program will get a monthly allowance.
