Sixty-six expatriate workers were arrested in a joint operation carried out by police and Maldives Immigration on Wednesday.

Police said the operation was part of ongoing efforts to identify and deport immigrants without valid visas.

According to Maldives Immigration, a total of 347 foreigners were checked during the operation, which covered Karankaa Magu and adjoining streets and areas.

Police said such operations are conducted to ensure public safety and maintain social and economic order.

Immigration has been conducting targeted operations to locate and remove undocumented immigrants. The authority has also launched a special online portal for the public to share information about individuals suspected of residing in the country without proper documentation.
