Imports and Customs Revenue increased in August, while Exports decreased

While the value of exports declined in August, imports and customs revenue grew in comparison to the same month the previous year.


The Maldives Customs Service has issued statistics for the month of August that show a 60 per cent reduction in exports from the same period last year.

 

According to MPL statistics of last month, Maldives exported MVR 270 million in commodities. This is less than half of last year's exports, which totalled MVR 675 million over the same time period in the Maldives.

 

COUNTRIES THAT EXPORT THE MOST ARE:

Thailand: MVR 130 million

UK: MVR 18 million

Germany: MVR 16 million

Netherlands: MVR 13 million

India: MVR 11 million

 


In August of last year, the Maldives imported goods worth MVR 2.1 billion. In August of this year, MVR 3.5 billion grew by 63 per cent.

 

COUNTRIES THAT EXPORT THE MOST ARE:

India: MVR 492 million

China: MVR 458 million

UAE: MVR 447 million

Oman: MVR 299 million

Singapore: MVR 288 million

 

Import duties generated MVR 102 million in August of last year, and MVR 288 million in August of this year, according to customs.

Citing to MPL's statistics, revenue from import duties and other levies grew by 182 per cent in comparison to the same month the previous year according to Customs officials.
