The Supreme Court of the Maldives has signed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Justice of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to strengthen judicial cooperation.  

The agreement was formalized on Sunday on the sidelines of the International Judicial Conference in Riyadh.  

Chief Justice Abdul Ghanee Mohamed signed the MoU on behalf of the Maldivian judiciary, while Dr. Walid Al-Samani, Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Justice, signed on behalf of the Kingdom.  

According to the Supreme Court, this is the first MoU signed between the Maldivian judiciary and a judicial authority of an Arab Islamic country.  

The five-year agreement outlines cooperation in six key areas, including:

The MoU is part of a broader effort to modernize and internationalize the Maldivian judiciary, aligning with global best practices while deepening ties with Islamic legal institutions.
