“It is sunny now, but it could rain again shortly,” an official from the Maldives Meteorological Service (MET) said on Monday when contacted regarding current weather conditions.
Weather across Maldives has been deteriorating due to the strong western monsoon and storms affecting neighbouring countries. The MET Office said unsettled conditions are expected to continue for the next four days.
According to the MET official:
Rain is expected until next Thursday, with occasional periods of clearer weather
Conditions are expected to improve after that period
“It may be heavy rain and then sunny. But after a break it may rain again. That is still the case,” the official said
Rain is expected in parts of the north and central Maldives
Weather in the south will be generally clearer
Winds in the northern atolls will range between 8 and 18 mph
Winds in the southern atolls will be southwest or west at 5 to 15 mph
Winds in the central atolls will be between 13 and 23 mph, with gusts reaching 40 mph during squalls
Sea conditions are expected to be:
Rough in central regions
Moderate to cloudy in the north
Moderately calm in the south
