Adeeb’s former lawyer Nadeem to be appointed as Criminal Court judge

Ahmed Adeeb's former lawyer Ali Nadeem will be sworn in as a Maldivian Criminal Court judge today, according to reports.


There will be two new judges sworn today by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).


In September 2015, Adeeb was arrested in connection with the explosion aboard the presidential motorboat Finifenmaa, and Nadeem, a former public prosecutor, represented him. In November 2015, he announced his resignation.


A former public prosecutor named Ismail Shafeeu is the second candidate for the bench of the Criminal Court of Appeals. He was also a defence attorney.


Criminal Court openings were advertised by JSC in June. There were nine applicants. besides Nadeem and Shafeeu.
