Maldives National Party, a new political party in the Maldives that aims to promote nation-first thinking, has gathered 5000 signatures to become a registered political party.

MNP has decided to apply for party registration on Wednesday.

Two months after receiving legal authorisation from the election commission to proceed with the official registration of their party, they had collected 5000 signatures from supporters.

Former Defence Minister and Dhagenthi constitution MP Mohamed Nazim led the MNP announcement on July 26.

According to the election commission, a political party can only be registered once the party requesting registration obtains 3000 authentic signatures.

Members of the new political party MNP have collected more than the required number of signatures by travelling around the Maldives.

According to the party's current leader, the party's goal is to recruit 10,000 new members and run in the next presidential election.

According to him, the parliament minority will be formed as soon as they reach 10,000 members.

Apart from Nazim, MNP members include Vilimale constitution MP Ahmed Husham, Nilandhoo constitution MP Abdul Muhusin, and Nolhivaram constitution MP Mohamed Nasheed (Mosta).

In contrast to other political parties, MNP, according to Nazim, will not always follow a certain leader and has a limit of two terms for its leader.

When there are ten political parties in the Maldives, only a few of them have a minimum membership of 3000 people.
