A new temporary parking zone for four-wheelers has been opened in Hulhumale' Phase II, offering space for more than 1,200 vehicles, the Transport Ministry said.

The facility was developed jointly by the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) and the Ministry of Transport, and was inaugurated by Transport Minister Mohamed Ameen.

Speaking at the opening, Minister Ameen said the zone will serve as a temporary solution to the city’s growing parking challenges, noting that many vehicles are currently parked in public spaces due to a lack of designated areas.

HDC Managing Director Ali Zuhair said permanent parking buildings are being constructed to address long-term needs. Minister Ameen added that construction of these buildings in Hulhumale' will begin within the next four months.

The opening comes as police launched a major operation on Saturday evening to remove illegally parked vehicles from streets and vacant lots in Hulhumale'. As of 16:30 hrs on Sunday, a total of 252 vehicles had been seized.
