Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), the Maldives' premier government hospital, is set to unveil a pioneering home nursing care service designed to ensure seamless continuity of care for patients after discharge.

This bespoke service will be available exclusively to IGMH patients identified by doctors as requiring additional care — particularly those with chronic health conditions. Specialist nurses, now undergoing advanced training, will deliver this tailored in-home support.

Following discharge, the nursing team will visit each eligible patient three times within 48 hours to monitor recovery and assess the home environment. Should additional medical attention be necessary, nurses will consult with physicians to deliver prompt, in-home treatment — minimising the need for hospital readmission.

With comprehensive protocols in development, IGMH anticipates launching the service during or after Ramadan, marking a new milestone in patient-centred healthcare for the Maldives.
