Malé City Council has confirmed it will convene its first public meeting of the year on 5 February, welcoming residents to participate in open discussions at City Hall, Boduthakurufaanu Magu. The session is scheduled for 8:45 pm and forms part of the council’s annual commitment to public consultation under the Decentralisation Act.

The current council’s term is set to conclude in April, and city councils nationwide are required by law to hold at least 2 public forums each year. Last year, Malé City Council fulfilled this mandate by hosting two well-attended meetings, providing a platform for citizens to raise concerns and engage directly with local leaders.

This year’s gathering will precede the forthcoming local council and Women’s Development Committee elections, scheduled for 4 April. The upcoming poll will usher in a new cohort of representatives, tasked with steering the capital’s development over the next term.

Residents and stakeholders are encouraged to attend the February session — an important opportunity to share perspectives and help shape Malé’s urban landscape.
