Male’ Mayor Adam Azim, who won the MDP’s Male’ mayoral nomination in the local council election primary on Friday, has called for leveraging this victory to focus on achieving success for the main opposition party in the local council election and ultimately in the 2028 presidential election.
Adam Azim achieved a significant triumph in the primary election versus ex-Central Henveiru MP Ali Azim.
During a victory event on Friday night, Adam Azim expressed his gratitude to his supporters who contributed to securing his win in the primary. He expressed appreciation to the general members of MDP who cast their votes for him.
Adam Azim characterized his win in the primary as a triumph for MDP, expressing his hope that his opponent and all others will collaborate to achieve the Male’ mayoral position and the wider local council elections for the party.

He emphasized that the populace would endure hardship until MDP regains power, indicating that a presidential win is essential to resolve the issue.
“Building on this momentum, we can achieve an MDP win in the 2028 presidential election if we all collaborate,” he stated.
Additionally, Adam Azim recognized that numerous problems afflict the Maldivian capital, Male’ City. He reiterated his dedication to provide an improved Male' for the citizens.
He also emphasized that he will continuously support the MDP, stating his conviction that the party has positively changed the Maldives.
