An Indian naval vessel in the Maldives for joint exercises with the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) has become stranded on a reef close to Male’.
A witness who communicated with Sun stated that the Indian Coastguard vessel 'Vajra' crashed on the Hudhuveli reef in the Male’ atoll, home to two resorts.
Based on the observer's account. The military vessel had severely damaged the reef.
The two resorts situated on the reef are Villa Nautica, previously called Paradise Island Resort, and Gili Lankanfushi Maldives.
When asked about the incident, the MNDF media representative stated that the Indian Coastguard vessel ‘ICJS Vajra’, present in the Maldives for Exercise Dosti, has been refloated.
The official did not offer any additional information.
Earlier this morning, MNDF reported the arrival of two Indian naval vessels and a Dornier aircraft, along with a Sri Lankan military ship for a trilateral drill. The activity takes place every year.
