Applications are now open as of Sunday, January 18, 2026 for the Government's Family Housing program in the Greater Malé Region, an essential initiative under President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s “Housing for All” policy designed to provide long-term housing solutions for Maldivian citizens 18 years and older.
In contrast to earlier announcements that combined applications with a single deadline, officials have now established distinct submission dates for land and flat applications, a step regarded as part of the administration's effort to regulate demand and expedite processing across different categories.
As per the official application timetable:
- Applications for residential land will close at 23:59 on Wednesday, March 4, 2026.
- Applications will close at 23:59 on Friday, April 17, 2026.
Applications should be submitted via the Ministry's housing portal online: boahiyaavahikan.housing.gov.mv.
The application procedure is regulated by two rule sets released in the Government Gazette, which define eligibility criteria, allocation strategies, and scoring systems for candidates:
Local media reports have indicated that the wider policy framework encompasses the distribution of 15,000 land parcels and 7,900 apartments in the initial phase of the "Housing for All" initiative.
To minimize delays and facilitate public access during the opening phase, the Ministry has specified that applicants do not need to provide the complete set of documents specified in the general regulations at this time.
Applicants need to submit only the documents specified in Schedule 2 of the public announcement, including those needed for individuals seeking consideration under special categories.
The public is encouraged to obtain clarification through the Ministry’s hotline support and official contact methods, including questions sent via email.
The Family Housing program is anticipated to be among the most politically impactful public initiatives during President Muizzu’s term, after prior community consultations led to changes in eligibility criteria prior to today’s launch.
