After more than thirty years, the commercial harbor of Male' will now permit foreign ships to enter without interruptions.

Starting from November 1988, international cargo ships arriving in Maldivian waters after midnight had to remain offshore until 06:00 in the morning before entering the port limit area. That limitation has now been removed.

On Sunday, the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation reported that the influx of merchant ships to the Maldives is consistently rising. To enhance economic development and streamline logistics, the government has opted to grant uninterrupted access to the port limit area beginning Monday.

Through this modification, the ministry will guarantee the ongoing provision of pilotage services, vessel safety inspections, and ISPS (International Ship and Port Facility Security) approvals according to international standards. Officials stated that the action will decrease waiting expenses for both operators and passengers, while enhancing time savings and efficiency.

The ministry characterized the choice as a crucial move to establish Male' Commercial Port as a dependable global maritime entry point. It is anticipated to enhance the nation's maritime transportation industry and draw in additional vessel activity.

Transport Minister Dr. Abdulla Muthalib has indicated that the government is dedicated to improving port services and increasing facilities for businesses involved in import and export activities.
