Rasheed Carpentry and Construction (RCC) has further cemented its reputation as one of the Maldives’ most dependable construction firms with the completion and handover of Shaheed Ali School, a major public education project in Hulhumalé Phase 2.

The MVR 247 million project was delivered under a contractor-financed, design-and-build arrangement and completed within two years. It was formally handed over to the government ahead of the new academic year, with the school now operational and catering to students from Grade 1 to Grade 10.

The project highlights RCC’s ability to execute large-scale public infrastructure while assuming financial responsibility, a model that helps ease short-term fiscal pressure on the state and accelerates development. Under the financing agreement, government repayments will begin on 1 February next year and be spread over a five-year period.

The foundation stone for Shaheed Ali School was laid in December 2023 by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. Construction advanced rapidly after the current administration prioritised the project, which had experienced delays following its initial award to RCC in June 2021.

Designed as one of the most modern school facilities in the Greater Malé region, the campus includes 54 fully equipped classrooms, each accommodating up to 32 students. With a total capacity of 1,950 students, the school operates on a two-shift system supported by 230 teachers.

In addition to classrooms, the facility offers a wide range of educational amenities, including a 400-seat auditorium, library, computer lab, three chemistry laboratories, indoor and outdoor halls, and fully furnished learning spaces. All classrooms are air-conditioned and fitted with modern teaching tools, including television screens. The building also features three elevators, each with a 20-person capacity, to ensure accessibility.

Education Minister Dr. Ismail Shafee has described Shaheed Ali School as the most advanced educational facility currently serving the Malé region, noting that all arrangements were in place for a smooth start to the academic year.

Named after national hero Ali Rasgefaanu, the school was officially inaugurated by President Muizzu during a special assembly attended by senior government officials and RCC Chairman Mohamed Nazim.

For RCC, the successful completion of Shaheed Ali School reflects the company’s technical capability, financial strength, and commitment to national development. As demand grows for high-quality public infrastructure delivered through innovative financing models, the project positions RCC as a reliable partner for future large-scale developments across the Maldives.
