Fire erupts in Hulhumale’ building; 21 individuals relocated to shelters

A fire erupted in a six-story structure in Hulhumale’ early Sunday, inflicting significant damage to the warehouse on the lower level and disrupting electricity for the entire building, which contains residential units as well.

 

The blaze occurred at plot number 11154 situated on Chambeylee Magu 5, Hulhumale’ Phase I.

 

The Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) received the report at approximately 3:30 am, and firefighters from the Hulhumale’ Fire Station extinguished the fire by around 03:40 am.

 

The MNDF stated that the blaze started from a heap of debris located outside the structure. The blaze broke the glass panels in the lower warehouse, infiltrated the space, and resulted in significant destruction to the goods and the electrical systems.

 

Although there were no injuries, the fire affected the electrical panel and interrupted power to the whole building.

 

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) reported that they are offering temporary housing and meals to 21 individuals residing in two apartments within the building.


The recent blaze follows a Friday fire in Hiyaa Tower 5 that harmed the building’s plumbing. A total of 140 individuals residing in 30 apartments have been relocated to temporary shelters, as repair activities are anticipated to last a week.
