Parliament approves for Maldives to join IUCN

The Maldives' Parliament has approved Maldives to join the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN).


The Foreign Relations Committee of parliament considered President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's request for authorization to join the convention.


The decision to join the convention was unanimously endorsed by the committee and submitted to a vote on Monday on the floor of parliament. A total of 28 parliamentarians took part in the vote, and all of them voted in favor of it, making it official.


The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) is a global organization dedicated to environmental conservation and sustainable resource use. There are over 91 member countries in the organization, as well as 1,400 government and non-government organizations.
