Dustbins have been set up in FDC-managed apartments in Hulhumale' as residents persist in discarding large waste items despite the ban.
Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC) has set up trash bins in apartments in Hulhumalé.
On Wednesday, FDC installed waste bins in 32 towers for the disposal of regular household garbage.
The company stated that bottles, cardboard containers, and any other waste not classified as household trash are forbidden from being disposed of in these bins.
FDC urged all parties to adhere to waste-disposal regulations to preserve the cleanliness of the structures and the surrounding environment.
The issue of garbage dumping has emerged as a widespread concern in Hulhumale' and various areas of the city. Particularly during Ramadan, it is usual to observe litter on roadsides after cleaning homes.
Recently, a total fine of MVR 8,000 has been imposed on two individuals for littering in the vicinity of FDC towers in Phase II.
FDC Managing Director Hamdhaan Shakeel informed Sun that the penalties were imposed following the corporation's receipt of proof indicating the two individuals discarded waste close to the towers. He mentioned that one was penalized MVR 5,000 and the other MVR 3,000.
Hamdhaan pointed out that FDC personnel have seen certain flat residents capturing images of trash and sharing them in community groups.
He mentioned that certain individuals throw away empty boxes and subsequently fill them with trash, resulting in unpleasant odors. On Monday night, 17 garbage trucks, each capable of holding 25 tons, were emptied from FDC flats, he noted.
