Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has reported the completion of Phase 2 of the Malé North Side Boduthakurufaanu Magu Development Project, which includes asphalt installation.

Phase 2 covers the portion of Malé North Side Boduthakurufaanu Magu that stretches from Male’ Fish Market to the atoll shops.

The project's contractor, MTCC, announced the completion of Phase 2, which included asphalt paving on a 260-meter section and widening the road to 14 meters. It stated that the quay wall was lengthened by around six meters outward during the extensive redevelopment of the area.

The activities on Phase 2 of the project began in late December of the previous year.

The section of Boduthakurufaanu Magu located between the Fish Market and the presidential jetty was made accessible to the public in mid-December after three months of renovation efforts for the project's initial phase.

In this context, the road was expanded to four lanes, with barriers placed on either side and additional amenities for wheelchair and trolley accessibility. Work on this section started on August 22, 2024, subsequent to the Ministry of Construction granting MTCC a contract valued at MVR 144.5 million, with a projected completion period of one year and three months.

Importantly, the government is also requesting help from the Chinese government to revamp the internal roads of Male’ City.
