On Friday, Mohamed Muizzu stated that the land reclamation at the Giraavarufalhu lagoon is advancing, with two dredgers working concurrently.
The government is implementing land reclamation initiatives in the Malé region to meet housing needs. These consist of initiatives launched during the former administration along with new ventures introduced by the present government. Certain projects have encountered stoppages, resulting in postponements in execution.
The President stated that dredging activities at Giraavarufalhu restarted last month following a break. No additional information was given regarding the current schedule or completion date.
The initiative seeks to recover a total of 169 hectares of land. Before the halt, 56 hectares had been excavated.
The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) stated last year its intention to deploy three more dredgers to speed up operations at Giraavarufalhu in addition to the two currently in use. The extra dredgers were anticipated to arrive by October of the previous year.
