President Muizzu returns to Maldives after concluding Germany visit

On Friday, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu returned to the Maldives after finishing an official trip to Germany, which was made at the invitation of President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.


The President went to Germany on Monday for a five-day official trip.


While visiting, President Muizzu and President Steinmeier engaged in official bilateral discussions, with both leaders committing to continue the dialogue initiated during the visit. Conversations focused on enhancing cooperation in mutual interest areas by boosting high-level interactions, intending to benefit both countries.


The President participated in the Maldives–Germany Business Roundtable, where investment opportunities in the Maldives were presented to German companies. In his speech, the President emphasized progress in economic reforms and urged German companies to seek new prospects as the Maldives aims to expand and diversify its economy. The meeting ended with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Visit Maldives and DERTOUR Deutschland GmbH to work together on destination marketing and promotional efforts.


Furthermore, the President presented a keynote address at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, discussing the Maldives' experiences in adjusting to climate change. He also spoke at the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Auswärtige Politik (DGAP), discussing the strategic significance of the ocean in international relations.


The visit coincided with the commemoration of 60 years of diplomatic ties between the Maldives and Germany. A formal gathering was held to celebrate the achievement, with attendance from the Maldivian delegation, high-ranking officials of the German government, diplomats in Berlin, and Maldivians living in Germany.



The President had individual meetings with Maldivians living in Germany, talking with them about their experiences and worries.
