Japan and the Maldives have finalized a MVR 70 million deal to restore the sea walls in the eastern and northern parts of Male’ City.
The Infrastructure Ministry states that the project will be executed under the Economic and Social Development Programme of the Japanese government.
The contract was granted to Toyo Construction Co., Ltd., a prominent Japanese firm specializing in marine and civil engineering.
The agreement was signed by State Minister Thoaam Mohamed on behalf of the Infrastructure Ministry, and by Izawa Kan, Deputy General Manager, representing Toyo Construction Co., Ltd.
The project will be handled by Oriental Consultants Global Co., Ltd. for the consultancy work.
The contract amount is 700 million Japanese yen, roughly MVR 70 million, with the project expected to finish in 487 days.
Japan has historically been an important ally in coastal conservation initiatives in the Maldives.
