Police Commissioner Ismail Naveen has chosen to step down from his post.

His appeal has now been forwarded to the President's Office.

In a communication to the police leadership, Naveen stated that he had been contemplating retirement for a while.

"Today I have chosen to file for retirement." "After thinking about this for several days, I have made the decision to proceed with it today after reflecting on numerous aspects," Naveen wrote.

In the message, Naveen stated that this is the best moment to conclude his term of service.

"I feel that now is the right moment to finish my term and transition responsibilities seamlessly," he remarked.

Naveen ended his message by stating that it was a tremendous privilege for him to have the chance to serve the nation and the police organization in that role.

As per the Police Act, when the Police Commissioner retires or is removed, the position will be temporarily assumed by the Deputy Police Commissioner. Farhad Fikree presently holds the position of Deputy Commissioner.

In the meantime, the Public Accounts Committee of parliament has recently suggested the suspension of various high-ranking police officials, including Naveen, linked to the POLCO corruption.

Naveen serves as the second Police Commissioner under the Muizzu administration. The position was formerly occupied by Ali Sujau. He stepped down on April 26 after facing backlash regarding the inquiry into the collapse of Hawwa Yumn.

Prior to the establishment of the police force as a distinct entity, Naveen was part of the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF). Naveen became a part of the police force in 2006. He has served as the Head of the Human Resources Department, Head of Central Operations, and Head of the Forensic Service Directorate.

Naveen finished advanced studies in law and leadership in the UK and Australia.
