On February 17, the retail scene in Hulhumalé grew with the official launch of a new STO People’s Choice store, signifying the State Trading Organization's anticipated arrival in one of the nation’s rapidly developing residential centers.
The new branch was officially opened at a ceremony with Economic Development and Trade Minister Mohamed Saeed present, highlighting the government’s commitment to enhancing supply chains and maintaining price stability before Ramadan.
With the growth of Hulhumalé’s population, residents often express worries about the lack of a specific STO outlet nearby. The launch directly responds to that need, providing families easier access to a complete selection of groceries and household items without having to go to Malé.
The store reflects the product range offered at STO People’s Choice in Malé, making everyday necessities and high-end imported brands more accessible to families in Phase 1 and nearby areas.
As Ramadan nears, the timing of the launch is tactical. The shop will carry essential staple goods like rice, sugar, and flour, in addition to 23 extra items just included in the national essential commodities list. All necessary food products will be for sale to consumers, aiding larger initiatives to stabilize prices and maintain continuous supply during times of high demand.
In addition to essential food items, the store will offer a selection of globally recognized brands imported and distributed by STO. Customers can discover home appliances and electronics from renowned brands such as Hitachi, LG, and Philips, highlighting STO's dual function as a provider of food security and a key retail distributor.
