The whole Addu City experienced a total power failure on the first Friday of Ramadan, with persistent electricity problems still unaddressed.
At around 11:30 a.m. on Friday, power outages took place throughout Addu City.
Addu Fenaka has announced that the power plant is presently non-operational due to a malfunction in one of its generators. As a result, electricity services have been interrupted throughout the interconnected islands of Addu City.
Fenaka has mentioned that measures are being taken to address the situation, but the utility company has not given an estimated timeframe for when power will be restored.
Addu City encountered a power outage on Friday, having also suffered a similar blackout on the 11th of this month.
Addu City Mayor Ali Nizar has earlier highlighted the necessity for a lasting resolution to the city's persistent power interruptions. He also cautioned that electricity usage is projected to rise during Ramadan, prompting worries that the existing capacity may not satisfy the heightened demand.
Nonetheless, numerous Addu City inhabitants argue that the existing administration is not making progress toward a lasting resolution for the city's ongoing electricity problems. Residents have voiced significant worry regarding the government's repeated method of acquiring used generators from elsewhere to offer temporary solutions whenever there is a power outage.
